Come celebrate the life and teachings of Dr. King through music, dance, and stories. The 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration will be held at the Lynnwood Convention Center on Thursday, January 16th at 6:30pm. Admission is free to the public.
This year's event will feature Brooklyn based hip-hop artist, Talib Kweli, as the keynote speaker. Kweli is known as being one of the most lyrically-gifted, socially aware and politically insightful rappers to emerge in the last 20 years. He has performed all over the world, working with artists such as Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, The Roots, Norah Jones and many other famous musicians.
"We are focusing this year on how we take the teachings and ideals of MLK and make a difference in today's world," said City of Lynnwood Community Outreach Specialist, Julie Moore.
The program will also include several acts by local students including a DJ, a hip hop dance and a musical performance. "I'm always amazed at the talented student performers from Edmonds School District and Edmonds Community College," Moore commented.
For several years, the City of Lynnwood, Edmonds Community College and Edmonds School District have worked collaboratively to sponsor a Martin Luther King Jr. celebration and bring Lynnwood a positive program that encourages mutual understanding and respect for our growing and changing community.
